Spectral Analysis for Stationary Solutions of the Cahn–Hilliard Equation in R

چکیده
We consider the spectrum associated with three types of bounded stationary solutions for the Cahn–Hilliard equation on Rd, d ≥ 2: radial solutions, saddle solutions (only for d = 2), and planar periodic solutions. In particular, we establish spectral instability for each type of solution. The important case of multiply periodic solutions does not fit into the framework of our approach, and we do not consider it here.

Spectral Analysis of Stationary Solutions of the Cahn–Hilliard Equation
For the Cahn–Hilliard equation on R, there are precisely three types of bounded non-constant stationary solutions: periodic solutions, pulse-type reversal solutions, and monotonic transition waves. We study the spectrum of the linear operator obtained upon linearization about each of these waves, establishing linear stability for all transition waves, linear instability for all reversal waves, ...
متن کاملSpectral Analysis for Periodic Solutions of the Cahn–Hilliard Equation on R
We consider the spectrum associated with the linear operator obtained when the Cahn–Hilliard equation on R is linearized about a stationary periodic solution. Our analysis is particularly motivated by the study of spinodal decomposition, a phenomenon in which the rapid cooling (quenching) of a homogeneously mixed binary alloy causes separation to occur, resolving the mixture into regions of dif...
متن کاملStationary Solutions of Driven Fourth- and Sixth-Order Cahn--Hilliard-Type Equations
New types of stationary solutions of a one-dimensional driven sixthorder Cahn-Hilliard type equation that arises as a model for epitaxially growing nano-structures such as quantum dots, are derived by an extension of the method of matched asymptotic expansions that retains exponentially small terms. This method yields analytical expressions for far-field behavior as well as the widths of the hu...
متن کامل2 00 4 Coalescence in the 1 D Cahn - Hilliard model
We present an approximate analytical solution of the Cahn-Hilliard equation describing the coalescence during a first order phase transition. We have identified all the intermediate profiles, stationary solutions of the noiseless Cahn-Hilliard equation. Using properties of the soliton lattices, periodic solutions of the Ginzburg-Landau equation, we have construct a family of ansatz describing c...
متن کاملThe existence of global attractor for a Cahn-Hilliard/Allen-Cahn equation
In this paper, we consider a Cahn-Hillard/Allen-Cahn equation. By using the semigroup and the classical existence theorem of global attractors, we give the existence of the global attractor in H^k(0
